Texas Low Brass Academy SUMMER CAMP is a 4-day intensive summer day camp event located at the University of Houston. Any trombone, euphonium, and tuba student grades 7-12 (or at least 1 year of playing experience) and early college music majors will have the opportunity to study with, listen to, and perform with our esteemed guest artists and faculty, attend guest artist recitals and masterclasses, play in chamber groups, meet new friends from around the state, and much more! 

 

All activities will be in accordance with the CDC COVID-19 guidelines and regulations to ensure the health and safety of our students and staff members.

WHAT TO EXPECT

GUEST ARTISTS & FACULTY

Listen to and learn from world-class trombone, euphonium, & tuba performers and educators in daily rehearsals and performances.

MASTERCLASSES

Perform and receive feedback from some of the best educators in the world.  Take your playing to the next level by unlocking new techniques, ways to think about music, and personal guidance for your own musical growth.

CHAMBER ENSEMBLES

Each student will be placed into a small ensemble with students their age and experience for the week and receive individual and group coaching by our esteemed faculty members.

​

GROUP WARM-UPS

Learn how to create a routine and ways to properly warm-up to enhance your playing throughout the year. 

​

COMMUNITY

Build lasting and impactful relationships with everyone from our guest artists and faculty to the other student participants.  

​

FINAL CONCERT

Perform in the final concert with your small ensemble group and with the mass low brass ensemble with the summer camp faculty and student participants.

WHEN AND WHERE IS TLBA?

July 9-12, 2024 at the University of Houston (10am-4pm)

DO STUDENTS SPEND THE NIGHT ON CAMPUS?

Our summer camp is a commuter day camp. All students will need to drive or be dropped off for each day's events.   

​

ARE SCHOLARSHIPS AVAILABLE?

Yes!  We offer need-based scholarships on a limited availability and group rates for schools and districts. 2024 Scholarship Application - HERE (deadline May 1st)

WHAT ARE THE AGE REQUIREMENTS?

Students entering grades 7-12 for the 2024-2025 school year, early college music majors, or students with 1 year of band experience are welcome to participate.  

​

ARE THERE AUDITIONS FOR TLBA?

Nope! Each student will be placed into a small ensemble for the week based on age and ability level. All students will also be a member of the TLBA Low Brass Ensemble for the Final Concert!

​

WHAT DOES TUITION INCLUDE?

Tuition includes guest artist masterclasses and performances, camp t-shirt, all music and supplies, recording archives, and more. Tuition does not include meals.

​

WHERE IS THE BEST PLACE TO PARK ON CAMPUS?

Detailed parking information will be sent out in advance of camp. 

​

ARE PRIVATE LESSONS AVAILABLE?

Optional private lessons are available with select faculty members at the conclusion of each day for an additional TLBA hourly rate. More information will be sent upon registration.

ARE PARENTS ALLOWED TO WATCH THE GUEST ARTIST PERFORMANCES?

Yes! All of the performances are FREE and open to the public!

DOES MY CHILD NEED TO BRING AN INSTRUMENT?

All students should bring their own instrument, as we will not have access to instruments from our host school. You may need to contact your band director ahead of time to make arrangements to have an instrument for the summer.
